Board and care homes specialize in assisted living care with particular emphasis on residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The ideal resident is usually someone suffering from significant memory loss affecting multiple ADLs. If you are noticing a senior unable to complete familiar tasks, misplacing and losing things, no longer participating in work and social activities, exhibiting poor judgment or increased problems with finding words while trying to speak or write, then intervention is probably warranted.
Like the name implies, these are homes situated in neighborhoods throughout California. They usually accommodate six persons per home; to create an intimate, family like environment, often times matching the social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the senior and their community. The services included are similar to those listed above except in a smaller setting, which allows for more comprehensive, personal and intimate level of care.
Board & Care homes are generally more expensive than assisted-living options primarily due to their ratio of staff to residents and the personal attention to care/service. They are generally cost-inclusive with rates starting at approximately $3500 per month to $12,500 per month depending on the community and the personal care/attention required. Long-term care insurance will provide some coverage. We can help you find the right Board and Care Home to meet your needs and budget.
